Samsung has let slip details of its widely-rumoured foldable smartphone, thought to be called the Galaxy X.

A support page for the Galaxy X has appeared on Samsung's Korean website, suggesting that the company is gearing up to reveal the new device.

First spotted by Dutch mobile site Mobiel Kopen , the web page doesn't offer any details apart from the model number - SM-G888N0 - with the "N0" signifying it will only go on sale in South Korea.

However, with the company expected to unveil its Galaxy S9 at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, many are expecting Samsung to offer a first look at the new Galaxy X at the same time.

The news comes after Lets Go Digital uncovered a series of sketches submitted by Samsung to the Korean Intellectual Property Office under the same model number last month.

The sketches suggest that the Galaxy X will have a flip-phone design with two displays - one of which will be flexible - and a multi-joint hinge, similar to the one on Microsoft's Surface Book.

Earlier this year, Koh Dong-jin, president of Samsung's mobile business, hinted that the company would launch a smartphone with a bendable display in 2018.

However, he admitted at the time that there were several hurdles that needed to be overcome before the device could go into production.

"As the head of the business, I can say our current goal is next year," he said during a media day for the launch of the Galaxy Note 8 in August.

"When we can overcome some problems for sure, we will launch the product."

This is not the first time Samsung has been rumoured to be working on a foldable smartphone. Last year, the company filed a patent for a mobile device with a flexible OLED screen.

Then, in January, sources told The Korea Herald that Samsung had created a phone that folds-out into a 7-inch tablet.

Samsung has already shown off flexible display prototypes, as well a concept video of how a flexible display could look on a finished device (see video player at top of article).

The problem, multiple sources say, isn't with the technology but whether Samsung can work out marketing and profitability issues.

Meanwhile, LG allegedly started working on fold-out technology up to three years ago, making it more advanced than Samsung. However, the company is yet to unveil a working product.
